Nominated for a 2015 Grammy Award for “Best Song”, Hozier’s masterpiece, Take Me To Church brought new light to the modern ballet, all due to David LaChapelle's inspired direction of its music video.
LaChapelle, renowned for his previous collaborations with legendary musicians such as Moby, Christina Aguilera, and Elton John, collaborated with the British Royal Ballet's “enfant terrible”, Sergei Polunin for Hozier's video.
The production for the video took place on LaChapelle’s farm on Maui, and received over 13 million views on YouTube in only a few short weeks after its release. The new visual phenomenon caught the attention of Ellen DeGeneres, who welcomed the Ukranian dancer on her TV show to perform what he'd claimed would be his “last dance”.
After his performance Polunin said, “This dance was supposed to be my last dance, but [the music video] gave me so much attention...working with David LaChapelle, who is an incredible artist and pure, honest person, I fell in love with dance again."
